El evento respondió en su inicio a las necesidades creativas de un grupo importante de artistas jóvenes de la localidad, inspirados en las tendencias y prácticas artísticas más contemporáneas a nivel internacional.

The Sixth Literary Crusade of Camagüey will take place from 8/6 to 8/14.  There will be a number of events in support of literature and music providing an important cultural opportunity for Camagüeyanos, especially those living outside of the city, offering them exposure to the works of the literary vanguard of Cuba.    As part of this event, there will be presentations of books and magazines from various sources including Editorial Ácana, Unión, Vigía, Ediciones Matanzas, Capiro and Ediciones Ávila

Camagüey Happenings: Musicora performing at Cubadisco

The group “Musicora” will be at Cubadisco XIII  in Havana with a program of traditional Cuban music this coming Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. at the Music Garden.

They were invited by the National Institute of Music in recognition of their achievements over 15 years.

The group, directed by one of the founders, Humberto García Braña, and comprised of 10 performers, is noteworthy for its ability to work in diverse formats and musical genres, although their primary focus is folk, jazz and classic.

Camagüey, May 14.- The official schedule for Camagüey 2009 St. John Party (carnival season) approved by the Municipal Council plans the making of this celebration, starting on June 24th and ending on June 29th.

As is tradition, in the midnight hour of June 24th from the balcony of the City Hall, the edict will be read opening so the carnival season.

The city will set 30 areas for the celebration, among them streets, outdoor dance areas, cabarets and social clubs, including premises and even the Teatro



Local Artisans Donate Clay Murals to Camagüey City

Camagüey- The Cuban colonial architecture typified in the former Spanish village of Puerto Principe as a subject is predominant in 17 murals of artistic clay that artisans in Camagüy donated here to be placed in public areas of this eastern city.

Members of the Cuban Artisans and Artists Association (ACAA) molded the pieces that are now showcased on one of the sidewalks surrounding the Workers’ Square (Plaza de los Trabajadores), which is located in a segment of the city recently proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Camagüey- Camagüey colonial center, its circuit and attractiveness will be among the patrimonial cities here, to be boosted during Cuba’s 29th International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2009), an event that begins today and last till May 8th at the Morro- Cabaña complex in Havana.

Founded on February 2nd, 1514 a segment of the former village of Puerto Principe was proclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site, when the city commemorated its 495th anniversary.

In the list of cities that will be visited by tour operators and travel agents because of their great patrimonial
