Thank you, Mr. President. After this summer’s buzzing rumors regarding some kind of White House action, the Obama Administration has today announced new regulations governing U.S. citizen travel to Cuba. It is a large step forward, and comes in the wake of a disappointing missed opportunity by the Congress to change the law. We congratulate the White House on their forward-looking decision. And we congratulate all of you for the hard and dedicated work

Ricardo Gonzalez to receive the 2011 Martin Luther King Heritage Award

The Governor’s 2011 Martin Luther King, Jr., Heritage Award will be presented to Ricardo Gonzalez, at the State Capitol on Monday, January 17 at 12 Noon. This event will be carried live on Wisconsin Public Radio and TV. The award is in acknowledgement of “his past and continued work for social justice, community service and accomplishments as a well-respected and deserving public figure.” (Oscar Mireles, Chair, MLK 2011 State Planning Group). The other recipient will be our good friend Judge Paul Higginbotham, making this event even more special.

Camagüey artist to exhibit paintings and sculptors in Boston

The well-known sculptor Martha Jimenez will be exhibiting her works at Emerson college in Boston.  Links are here and here

Works by Cuban artist Martha Jimenez, from the province of Camaguey, will be exhibited at the Emerson College in Boston, US, at the invitation of the institution.

This is the first exhibition of Jimenez’s work in the US, where she recently concluded a tour of six states.

The Cuban artist was also invited to give lectures at the university devoted to the study of communication and performing arts.

Madison Playwright’s work premiers in Camagüey

Last November, the work of two Camagüeyano artists was exhibited at Edgewood College’s DeRicci Gallery under the sponsorship of MCSCA. In early August, the artistic exchange between our sister cities moved in a southerly direction when the staging of Bob Skloot’s play IF THE WHOLE BODY DIES: RAPHAEL LEMKIN AND THE TREATY AGAINST GENOCIDE made its Spanish-language premiere at the Escuela de Artes in Camaguey.

Skloot’s play, written in 2006 and translated last year by Bertha Pancorvo, was passed along to a small theatre company, Grupo Teatral Teatro, by Orestes Larios, one of the two…
